An Act concerning the training of school board employees in the use of the Heimlich Maneuver and supplementing chapter 33 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Whenever certified instructors are available at no cost to the board of education, the board shall provide inservice training in the use of the Heimlich Maneuver to all employees who in the course of their duties come into contact with students. All persons providing instruction in the Heimlich maneuver shall be certified as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) instructors by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association or the equivalent. Each board of education shall provide time for the training during the usual school inservice schedule in order to ensure that all appropriate employees receive the training.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that whenever certified instructors are available at no cost to the board of education, the board shall provide inservice training in the use of the Heimlich Maneuver to all employees who in the course of their duties come into contact with students.
