      The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 987 (1R).

      Senate Bill No. 987 (1R) appropriates $2,235,928 from the "Stormwater Management and Combined Sewer Overflow Abatement Bond Act of 1989" to the Department of Environmental Protection for the purpose of providing grants to the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners to finance the planning cost of combined sewer overflow abatement projects. The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners are authorized by statute to collect, treat and dispose of sewage for municipalities in parts of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties.

      As reported, this bill is identical to Assembly Bill No. 1732 (1R) of 1996 (DiGaetano/Doria).

 

FISCAL IMPACT

      The bill appropriates $2,235,928 from the "Stormwater Managemnt and Combined Sewer Overflow Abatement Fund," created by the "Stormwater Management and Combined Sewer Overflow Abatement Bond Act of 1989" (P.L.1989, c.181), to the Department of Environmental Protection for the purpose of providing grants to the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners to finance the planning cost of combined sewer overflow abatement projects.
