STATE OF NEW JERSEY

An Act providing an income tax deduction for certain families providing 1[home]1 care for elderly relatives 1in their home1 and supplementing Title 54A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Each taxpayer filing an individual return with a gross income of not more than $35,000 or filing a joint return with a gross income of not more than $50,000, who provides more than one half of the support for a relative who was at least 70 years of age prior to the taxable year and who resided in the taxpayer's home for at least six months of the taxable year, shall be entitled to an additional deduction of $3,000 from the taxpayer's gross income.

 

    2. This act shall take effect January 1 1[, 1996 and apply to taxable years ending thereafter]next following enactment and shall apply to each taxable year beginning on and after that effective date1.

 

 

 

Provides $3,000 income tax deduction for certain families providing care for elderly relatives in their home.
