LEGISLATIVE FISCAL ESTIMATE TO

SENATE, No. 1027

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: SEPTEMBER 10, 1997

Senate Bill No. 1027 of 1996 would increase the fees charged for duplicate and amended motor vehicle registrations by $1. The additional revenue obtained by the $1 increase would be deposited in the New Jersey Emergency Medical Service Helicopter Response Program Fund. At present, a $1 fee levied on standard motor vehicle registrations pursuant to chapter 3 of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes generates about $6.0 million annually to support the emergency medical service helicopter response program.

According to unofficial, verbal estimates by the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), a $1 increase in fees for duplicate, family duplicate and motor vehicle transfer registrations may generate an additional $750,000 for the emergency helicopter response program.

The Office of Legislative Services accepts the DMV verbal estimate pending receipt of a written fiscal estimate from the division.

This fiscal estimate has been prepared pursuant to P.L.1980, c.67.
