An Act concerning Statewide testing and supplementing chapter 7C of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The Commissioner of Education shall not administer a Statewide test to a pupil in a public school for a period of two weeks prior to or two weeks following a public holiday enumerated in R.S.36:1-1, other than Saturday.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill prohibits the Commissioner of Education from administering a Statewide test, such as the High School Proficiency Test or the Early Warning Test, to any pupil during the two week period prior to and the two week period following a public holiday. Public holidays are enumerated at R.S.36:1-1 and include a number of generally accepted holidays and Saturdays, which are specifically excluded from the provisions of the bill.
