SENATE, No. 1095

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: OCTOBER 31, 1996

Senate Bill No. 1095 (1R) of 1996 authorizes the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to issue special license plates commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the New Jersey State Police. The special commemorative plates would only be issued to the State Police for display on State Police motor vehicles for one year. Subsequent to this one-year display, the director may transmit the special commemorative plates to the Former Troopers Association (FTA) for further disposition to its members and active duty State Police officers. Any monetary donation by the FTA for the special plates would be used by DMV to defray the cost of issuing these special plates.

According to DMV, only about 800 pairs of plates would need to be issued. At an estimated cost of $6.75 per pair, this proposal has a projected cost of $5,400. Since the amount of the donation, if any, from the FTA can not be determined, the potential revenue available to offset the plate issuing costs is unknown.

The Office of Legislative Services concurs.
