An Act establishing a certain data base in the Department of Education, supplementing chapter 6 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes and making an appropriation.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The Department of Education shall establish and maintain a data base consisting of the names and employment records of all persons who hold certificates issued by the State Board of Examiners. Upon written request, a board of education or the superintendent of a school district shall be entitled to receive the employment record of any person holding a certificate who is employed by the district or who has applied for a position in the district.

 

    2. The Division of Pensions and Benefits shall provide assistance to the Department of Education in establishing and maintaining the employment records of persons who hold certificates issued by the State Board of Examiners.

 

    3. There is appropriated from the General Fund a sum of $25,000 to the Department of Education to effectuate the purposes of this act.

 

    4. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill requires the Department of Education to establish and maintain a data base consisting of the names and employment records of all persons who hold certificates issued by the State Board of Examiners. Upon written request, a board of education or the superintendent of a school district would be entitled to receive the employment record of any person holding a certificate who is employed by the district or who has applied for a position in the district. The bill also requires the Division of Pensions and Benefits to provide assistance to the Department of Education in establishing and maintaining the employment records. An appropriation of $25,000 is made to the department to cover the initial costs of the data base.
