STATE OF NEW JERSEY

An Act concerning special license plates and supplementing chapter 3 of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. a. Upon application of an active member of the Ukrainian American Veterans organization, as certified by that organization, the director shall issue for a motor vehicle owned or leased by the member distinctive registration plates. The plates shall bear the words "Ukrainian American Veteran" and depict the emblem of the Ukrainian American [Veteran's] Veterans organization, in addition to the registration number and other markings or identification prescribed by law. The fee for these plates shall be 1[$15] $251 in addition to the fees otherwise prescribed by law for the registration of motor vehicles. 1The fee shall be retained by the division to offset the cost of producing the plates.1

    b. 1[The surviving spouse of a Ukrainian American veteran may retain the special license plates obtained by the deceased spouse pursuant to this section for display on a motor vehicle registered to the surviving spouse] In the event the average cost per license plate, as certified by the director, is greater than the $25 application fee established in subsection a. of this section, the director may discontinue the issuance of the Ukrainian American Veteran plates1.

    c. The director may promulgate rules and regulations governing the issuance and use of these license plates.

 

    2. This act shall become effective on the first day of the 1[fifth] sixth1 month after enactment.
