An Act permitting certain State employees a leave of absence to participate in certain disaster relief services and supplementing chapter 6 of Title 11A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Upon the request of the American Red Cross for the service of a State employee who is a certified disaster service volunteer of the American Red Cross, and upon the approval of that employee's appointing authority, a leave of absence with pay for no more than 10 work days in each year and an additional leave of absence without pay for no more than 10 work days in each year shall be given to the employee to participate in specialized disaster relief services for the American Red Cross. The appointing authority shall compensate an employee granted leave with pay under this section at the regular rate of pay for those regular work hours during which the employee is absent from work.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill permits State employees who are certified disaster service volunteers of the American Red Cross a leave of absence with pay for up to 10 work days each year and an additional leave of absence without pay for up to 10 work days each year to participate in specialized relief services for the American Red Cross. Such leave is contingent upon the request of the American Red Cross for the service of the State employee and upon the approval of that employee's appointing authority.


                             

Permits paid and unpaid leave of absence for State employees who are certified disaster service volunteers of American Red Cross to participate in disaster relief services.
