STATEMENT

This bill provides a FY1997 supplemental appropriation from the General Fund to the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs for the Agent Orange/Desert Storm Commission. The commission, established in 1980 as an independent body, studies the effects of Agent Orange on veterans and their offspring, conducts outreach programs to inform veterans of Agent Orange issues, and assists veterans with related claims. The FY 1997 budget eliminates State funding for the commission, which in prior years received funding for administrative support. This supplemental appropriation would restore State funding for the commission at a level of $120,000.

Supplemental appropriation of $120,000 to DMAVA for Agent Orange/Desert Storm Commission.
