SENATE LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 1558

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JANUARY 23, 1997

The Senate Law and Public Safety Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 1558.

Under current law (P.L.1983, c.565; C.2C:21-2.1), it is a disorderly person's offense to knowingly sell, offer or expose for sale a form, document or writing simulating a driver's license or other government document which a person could use as identification. This bill upgrades that offense to a crime of the fourth degree.
