      The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 1706 with committee amendments.

      Senate Bill No. 1706, as amended, appropriates $402,000 from the "1996 Lake Restoration Fund, established in the "Port of New Jersey Revitalization, Dredging, Environmental Cleanup, Lake Restoration, and Delaware Bay Area Economic Development Bond Act of 1996." This appropriation will provide grants to certain Monmouth County municipalities for the purpose of financing ongoing or new lake restoration projects at the four lakes listed in the bill (Echo Lake, Shadow Lake, Wesley Lake and McCarter Pond). The grant for Wesley Lake will be awarded to and administered by a special lake commission established by the two municipalities which the lake borders.

      The "Port of New Jersey Revitalization, Dredging, Environmental Cleanup, Lake Restoration, and Delaware Bay Area Economic Development Bond Act of 1996" designated a total of $5 million for the "1996 Lake Restoration Fund."

 

COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS

      The committee amended the bill at the request of the sponsor to add $100,000 for McCarter Pond dredging in Fair Haven Borough to the list of projects approved by the bill.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

      This bill appropriates $402,000 from the $5 million allocation of bonds authorized for the "1996 Lake Restoration Fund" under the "Port of New Jersey Revitalization, Dredging, Environmental Cleanup, Lake Restoration, and Delaware Bay Area Economic Development Bond Act of 1996."
