      The Senate Transportation Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 1730 with committee amendments.

      This bill, as amended, directs the Commissioner of Transportation to allocate and transfer $5,000,000 from an existing item or items in the FY 1998 Transportation Trust Fund capital construction program to a new item for the construction of access roads and related infrastructure improvements for the proposed South Jersey Food Distribution Center in Florence Township, Burlington County.

      In the FY 1996 capital program the Legislature authorized the Transportation Trust Fund to provide $1,000,000 to study the transportation issues related to the development of the proposed food distribution center. This additional $5,000,000 would be used for the actual construction of access roads and related infrastructure improvements for the center.

      The committee amended the bill by updating its provisions from FY 1997 to FY 1998.
