An Act concerning 1fines and1 penalty points for failing to observe certain highway lane restrictions and supplementing 1[P.L.1982, c.43 (C.39:5-30.5 et seq.)] chapter 4 of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes1.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. 1a. When the Commissioner of Transportation has by regulation designated restricted lane use for high occupancy vehicles, the driver of every vehicle shall obey those regulations, unless otherwise directed by a traffic or police officer.

    b. A person violating this section shall be subject to the following fined:

    (1) $50 for the first offense;

    (2) $100 for the second offense;

    (3) $250 for the third or subsequent offense.

    c.1 Penalty points, authorized pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1982, c.43 (C.39:5-30.5), shall not be assessed against a person who fails to observe high occupancy vehicle lane restrictions pursuant to regulations of the 1[Department] Commissioner1 of Transportation.

 

    2. This act shall take effect on the first day of the second month after enactment.
