SENATE URBAN POLICY AND PLANNING COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 1898

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JUNE 12, 1997

The Senate Urban Policy and Planning Committee reports favorably, with committee amendments, Senate Bill No. 1898.

Senate Bill No. 1898, as amended by the committee, appropriates the expected current balance in the Petroleum Overcharge Reimbursement Fund to the Department of Community Affairs to be used for the retrofitting or replacement of heating systems or other energy-related conservation measures for low-income households. The intended use of these funds will be consistent with previous uses of such funds. These funds will be especially helpful in light of recent reductions in funding for the Weatherization Assistance Program.

The committee amended the bill in order to make S1898 identical to Assembly Bill No. 2648.
