SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 1909

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: MAY 15, 1997

The Senate Transportation Committee favorably reports Senate Bill No. 1909 with committee amendments.

This bill, as amended, would expand the current sales and use tax exemption for sales of aircraft and aircraft repair service. Currently, aircraft sold to regulated commercial carriers, and the repairs to such aircraft, are exempt. This bill exempts the charges for services involved in maintaining, servicing or repairing any aircraft, including machinery or equipment to be installed on such aircraft and replacement parts therefor, if the services are performed at an aircraft facility in the State.

The committee adopted amendments clarifying the title of the bill and changing the language of the exemption to apply to services involved in the maintaining, servicing, or repairing of an aircraft, including machinery or equipment to be installed on such aircraft and replacement parts therefor, at an aircraft facility in the State.
