An Act concerning paid post-retirement medical benefits under the Police and Firemen's Retirement System for certain retirees and supplementing Title 43 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding any law, rule or regulation to the contrary, any retiree under the Police and Firemen's Retirement System on the effective date of this act who had 35 or more years of service credit in the retirement system, is not receiving employer paid post-retirement medical benefits, and had at least 25 years of service credit in the retirement system with an employer other than the employer at the time of retirement which provided paid post-retirement medical benefits to retirees under the State Health Benefits Program shall be enrolled in the State Health Benefits Program and shall receive post-retirement medical benefits paid for by the retirement system. The retirement system shall pay the premiums or periodic charges for the benefits provided to the retiree and any dependents covered under the program, but not including survivors. The retirement system shall also reimburse the retiree for premium charges under Part B of the federal Medicare program covering the retiree and the retiree's spouse.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
