STATEMENT

This bill makes a supplemental appropriation of $1,500,000 to the Department of Law and Public Safety to be used by the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to develop, equip and train urban search and rescue teams. The OEM would work in concert with the Division of Fire Safety in the Department of Community Affairs to establish these teams which would respond to emergencies in the State. It is envisioned that these teams could become certified as federal rescue teams once they meet the appropriate standards for training and equipment. The bill further provides that any funds remaining in this account at the end of the fiscal year be carried forward for the same purpose.

Supplemental appropriation of $1.5 million to DLPS for urban search and rescue teams.
