By Senator LESNIAK

An Act concerning expenditures from the revenues and other funds of the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund Authority.

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. From funds authorized by the Legislature to be appropriated from the revenues and other funds of the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund Authority for the Fiscal Year 1998 transportation capital construction program, the Commissioner of Transportation shall allocate and transfer $3,000,000 from a part or all of any item or items to a new item for the replacement of the Lawrence Street bridge over the Rahway River, located in the City of Rahway, Union County.

    2. This act shall take effect immediately but shall remain inoperative until enactment of the annual appropriations act for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1997.

STATEMENT

This bill directs the Commissioner of Transportation to allocate, from the revenues and other funds of the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund Authority in Fiscal Year 1998, $3 million for the replacement of the Lawrence Street bridge over the Rahway River, located in the City of Rahway, Union County.

This bridge was recently closed because of deterioration and structural problems. In addition, because of the bridge's low elevation over the Rahway River, this bridge is prone to flooding which exacerbates the bridge's declining physical condition. Consequently, a replacement bridge is necessary to alleviate traffic and safety problems caused by the closure of the Lawrence Street bridge.

Directs DOT Commissioner to allocate Transportation Trust Fund monies for the replacement of the Lawrence Street bridge in Rahway, Union County.
