STATE OF NEW JERSEY

INTRODUCED NOVEMBER 17, 1997

By Senator SACCO

An Act authorizing the payment of honoraria to public swimming pool commission members and amending P.L.1957, c.166.

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. Section 4 of P.L.1957, c.166 (C.40:61-22.24) is amended to read as follows:

    4. The governing body of any municipality may assign the general supervision and control over the maintenance, operation and regulation of any such public swimming pool and all forms of recreation, playground, and public entertainment activities carried on in connection therewith, to the board or body, if any, in charge of recreation in said municipality, or may provide, by ordinance, for the appointment of a board of commissioners to consist of not more than 5 residents of the municipality who shall have such general supervision and control. The members of such commission shall serve without compensation, but their necessary expenses shall be allowed and paid by the municipality: provided, however, that a municipality may provide an annual honorarium of up to $500 to each commission member to reward the efforts of those persons on behalf of the municipality.

(cf: P.L.1957, c.166, s.4)

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

This bill would authorize municipalities to provide an annual honorarium of up to $500 to each public swimming pool commission member.

Although this amount is small relative to the tremendous time, effort and responsibility put forth by volunteers all over the State, this bill would authorize municipalities to express a small token of appreciation for those efforts on behalf of public swimming pool commission members.
