An Act concerning the employment of legal counsel by county boards of taxation and supplementing chapter 3 of Title 54 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Each county board of taxation may employ legal counsel for the purpose of providing specific advice or representing the board in a legal action when the board determines, by resolution of a majority of the full membership of the board, that the Office of the Attorney General has a conflict of interest or is providing advice or representation adverse to the best interests of the board.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill would permit a county board of taxation to employ outside legal counsel when the board determines that advice or legal representation by the Attorney General is adverse to the best interests of the board due to a conflict of interest or for some other reason.
