An Act concerning school report cards and amending P.L.1995, c.235.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Section 2 of P.L.1995, c.235 (C.18A:7E-2) is amended to read as follows:

    2.    The Commissioner of Education shall develop and administer a School Report Card Program. The program shall provide for the annual preparation and dissemination of a school report card to parents and other interested taxpayers within each local school district. The report card shall be disseminated on May 1 of each school year. In order to avoid duplication and minimize the expense of this program, the commissioner shall coordinate the school report card program with other State and federal programs that require school districts to collect and publish data. The commissioner is authorized to collect the data and to define the terms as necessary to effectuate the purposes of this act.

    2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to the 1997-98 school year.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill specifies that the school report cards which are prepared and disseminated annually to parents and other interested taxpayers of each public school district shall be disseminated on May 1 of each school year.


                             

 

Establishes May 1 as the date for release of school report cards.
