An Act concerning superintendents of schools and amending N.J.S.18A:17-18.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. N.J.S.18A:17-18 is amended to read as follows:
18A:17-18. The superintendent of schools shall, when so required by the board or boards of education of the district or districts employing him, devote himself exclusively to the duties of his office.
The board or boards of education of the district or districts employing the superintendent of schools shall not permit that person to also serve as the school business administrator for the district or districts.

2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill prohibits a superintendent of schools from also serving as the school business administrator for the district which employs him. It is the intent of this bill to ensure that school districts are operated with an adequate system of checks and balances.
