SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. 64

 

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

By Senators KOSCO, INVERSO, LaRossa and Bubba

 

 

A Concurrent Resolution memorializing the Congress and President of the United States to enact legislation to designate May 15th as National Senior Citizen's Day.

 

Whereas, It is desirable to increase the nation's awareness of the accomplishments and experiences of the senior citizens of our country; and

Whereas, Senior citizens 65 years of age and older are an increasing segment of the population, currently comprising 12% of the nation's population, and 13% of New Jersey's population; and

Whereas, Younger generations benefit from the honoring and remembrance of the accomplishments, experiences and wisdom which senior citizens have amassed during their lives; and

Whereas, Senior citizens are deserving of a day of recognition honoring their numerous contributions to society and their survival through wartimes as well as their endurance of many hardships; now, therefore,

 

    Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey (the General Assembly concurring):

 

    1. The Congress and the President of the United States are respectfully memorialized to enact legislation honoring all the senior citizens of the United States by designating May 15th as National Senior Citizen's Day.

 

    2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary of the Senate, and signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk of the General Assembly, shall be forwarded to the Secretary of Health and Human Services of the United States and the presiding officers of the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, and to each of the members of the Congress of the United States elected from the State of New Jersey.
