INTERPRETIVE STATEMENT

NO

This amendment would allow the Legislature to use a portion of any unclaimed State lottery prize money to fund part or all of the funeral costs of police officers killed in the line of duty. Currently, unclaimed lottery prize money may be used only for State institutions and State aid for education, for augmenting prize money and for administrative expenses in operating the lottery. A prize is unclaimed if the winner has not asked for it within one year after a drawing.
