SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION No. 34
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
INTRODUCED OCTOBER 3, 1996
By Senator CAFIERO
A Joint Resolution designating August 28th of each year as "Peace Around the World Day" in New Jersey.
Whereas, Peace is a goal shared universally by the people of the world; and
Whereas, True peace is often elusive and fragile, given the jealousies, inequalities and divisions between peoples in different parts of the globe; and
Whereas, Throughout mankind's history, strife and conflict have taken lives, torn apart families and destroyed property; and
Whereas, The pain and sorrow wrought by conflict have taught humankind valuable lessons and should have provided the people of the world with the understanding and inspiration necessary to avoid future wars and conflicts; and
Whereas, Long-term efforts to achieve peace for future generations may at last be realized if people try to achieve peace through their daily efforts, thoughts and prayers; and
Whereas, Working toward achieving lasting peace in the world is appropriate and desirable for this State Government; and
Whereas, It is fitting and proper to designate August 28th of each year as "Peace Around the World Day" in New Jersey, so that all citizens of this State may give their attention to achieving and maintaining lasting peace in the world; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. August 28th of each year is designated as "Peace Around the World Day" in New Jersey, so that all citizens of this State may give their attention to achieving and maintaining lasting peace in the world.
