SENATE NATURAL RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE RESOLUTION No. 53

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JUNE 6, 1996

The Senate Natural Resources and Economic Development Committee favorably reports Senate resolution No. 53 with Senate Committee amendments.

This resolution urges the President of the United States to reauthorize the Coastal Zone Management Act. This federal act annually provides approximately $2.5 million to support various State administered coastal programs, including the coastal permitting and permit enforcement programs, nonpoint source pollution and the update of the New Jersey Shore Protection Master Plan.

The committee amended the bill to reflect that the legislation reauthorizing the CZMA has been approved by both houses of the Congress, and currently awaits the President's signature. The committee also provided that the resolution would be transmitted to the President and the Vice President of the United States.
