STATE OF NEW JERSEY

 

INTRODUCED OCTOBER 3, 1996

 

 

By Senators LYNCH, KENNY, O'Connor, Girgenti and MacInnes

 

 

A Senate Resolution designating the week of October 21st through 26th, 1996 as “Hispanic Business Week” in New Jersey.

 

Whereas, Hispanic-owned businesses constitute a growing, dynamic and critical sector of the State’s economy; and

Whereas, The number of Hispanic-owned businesses in New Jersey has increased 87% from 1987 and the State currently ranks seventh nationwide in Hispanic-owned businesses; and

Whereas, Hispanics constitute over 700,000 of New Jersey's population and by 2010, it is estimated that the Hispanic population will exceed one million, representing the largest minority group in the State; and

Whereas, The success of Hispanic-owned businesses in New Jersey is vital to the State's economic prosperity and leadership; and

Whereas, It is fitting and proper that this State recognize the entrepreneurial spirit of its Hispanic citizens and the contributions of Hispanic-owned businesses to the continued economic growth and development of the State; and

Whereas, In recognition of the 1996 Sixth Annual Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Convention and Exposition, "Leading Into the 21st Century," held October 23rd through 24th, 1996; now, therefore,

 

    Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The week of October 21st through 26th, 1996 is designated as “Hispanic Business Week” in New Jersey.

 

    2. This House urges the people of New Jersey to participate in the observances of “Hispanic Business Week” and to recognize the contributions of Hispanic-owned businesses to the State’s economy.

 

    3. This resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary thereof, shall be transmitted to the Governor, the Commissioner of Commerce and Economic Development, and the Chairman of the 1996 Sixth Annual Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Convention and Exposition.
