STATE OF NEW JERSEY

 

INTRODUCED JANUARY 27, 1997

A Senate Resolution declaring the week of April 20th through 26th, 1997 as "Anti-Graffiti Week" in New Jersey.

 

Whereas, The costly problem of graffiti vandalism was estimated in 1995 to exceed $4 billion per year nationally; and

Whereas, Effective control measures are vital to keeping neighborhoods clean and preventing graffiti; and

Whereas, Municipalities and counties across the country are establishing "graffiti hotlines" and adopting zero-tolerance programs to help rid their communities of graffiti; and

Whereas, Graffiti is visually unpleasing, is a financial burden to a community, gives the impression of poor community pride, degrades the environment, and creates an unpleasant atmosphere for residents and businesses; and

Whereas, The residents of New Jersey have pride in their neighborhoods and strive to keep them safe and clean; and

Whereas, This House, therefore, declares it to be in the interests of the State of New Jersey to declare the week of April 20th through 26th, 1997 as "Anti-Graffiti Week;" now, therefore,

 

    Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1.    This House hereby declares the week of April 20th through 26th, 1997 as "Anti-Graffiti Week" in New Jersey.

 

    2.    This House urges the people of New Jersey to participate in the observance of "Anti-Graffiti Week" by promptly notifying authorities of any person conducting an act of graffiti and by helping to remove graffiti from their neighborhoods.

 

    3.    This resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary thereof, shall be transmitted to the Governor and to the clerks of New Jersey's municipalities.
