SENATE ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE RESOLUTION No. 84

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: MAY 8, 1997

The Senate Environment Committee favorably reports Senate Resolution No. 84 with committee amendments.

This resolution requests the United States Congress to restore $2.4 million in shore protection funding that was eliminated in the President's FY 1998 budget request. The reductions would eliminate ongoing study and feasibility projects originally planned for Manasquan Inlet to Barnegat Inlet ($400,000), Great Egg Harbor Inlet to Townsends Inlet ($400,000), and Barnegat Inlet to Little Egg Inlet ($400,000). Additional funds targeted for the pre-construction, engineering and design phase of ongoing shore protection projects would also be eliminated: Townsends Inlet to Cape May Inlet ($500,000), Absecon Island ($400,000), Lower Cape May Meadows - Cape May Point ($100,000), and Cape May Villas, NJ (Delaware Bay Coastline) ($200,000).

The committee made technical amendments to the resolution.
