The Committee will hear testimony from invited
guests on the issue of abuse and neglect of individuals with disabilities in
group homes and other congregate care facilities. To understand the magnitude
of this problem and the barriers to safety and healing survivors with
disabilities face, the Committee will invite survivors or their family members
to share their experiences. The Committee will also hear from the Dept of
Children and Families and the Div of Developmental Disabilities, as well as
from operators of congregate care settings, on what is currently being done to
provide adequate protection for all individuals. National experts and advocates
will provide testimony on prevention strategies recommendations and steps to
improve the effectiveness of response to the abuse and neglect of individuals
with disabilities.
